As someone with chronically dry skin, I typically steer clear of any foundations that say “matte”. They’re usually too drying for my already parched skin, but when I received the new Milk Makeup Blur Liquid Matte Foundation, I couldn’t resist giving it a shot. I have mixed feelings about Milk Makeup. I’ve loved a few of their products (I’m lookin’ at you Blur Stick & Sunshine Oil) and come across a few that I wasn’t such a big fan of. The Blur Liquid Matte Foundation, however, has quickly become a new favorite.

This water-based foundation is vegan, cruelty-free & gluten-free. It retails for $40 and is available at Sephora, Urban Outfitters and MilkMakeup.com. As with all Milk Makeup products, the packaging is adorable! The full-coverage foundation comes in 16 shades and is packaged in a mess free, plastic tube. Usually, I prefer foundations with pumps, but I love that I can travel with this foundation without worrying about breakage or spills in my makeup bag. The tiny nozzle prevents air from entering the tube and oxidizing your foundation shade. Pretty neat, huh?

I tried numerous methods to apply this foundation, including Milk’s new Dab + Blend Applicator. This gel applicator, though absolutely adorable, didn’t do this foundation justice. Milk’s new blender is cute & glittery, packaged in a nifty holographic pouch – definitely easy on the eyes, but not necessary. Yes, it’s easy to clean, doesn’t absorb any product or hoard bacteria, but it took entirely too long to blend my foundation to perfection with this applicator. I did find it useful to apply the product to the face before blending out with a brush or beauty sponge, but it’s an unnecessary step.

I found that the best way to apply the Blur Liquid Matte Foundation was with a Beauty Blender. A brush works as well, but I love the airbrushed look that a sponge delivers with most foundations. Although this is a full-coverage formula, this foundation feels surprisingly lightweight on the skin. The finish is matte, but not completely flat – a borderline satin, dimensional matte. For my fellow dry skinned babes who have a “matte phobia“, try mixing in a drop of your favorite beauty oil to make the formula just a bit dewier. One of my favorite tricks when using a “matte” foundation, is to use a primer or moisturizer with some glow. Becca’s Backlight Filter Face Primer & Glamglow’s Glowstarter Moisturizer are two of my favorites. Using either of these before applying Milk’s Blur Liquid Matte Foundation makes for a magical combination.
