Okay, so unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that Wowder belongs to Glossier. My friends at Glossier HQ were super sneaky about the release of this product, but once I received official word that Wowder was a new release by Glossier, I was ecstatic. I have to admit, every time Glossier drops something new, my heart skips a beat and I go into a mini frenzy until I can place my order. (I know I’m not the only one, ladies!)
What is Wowder? Wowder is Glossier’s new, lightweight setting powder and is available in three shades (Light/Medium, Dark/Deep & Rich). It’s designed to set your makeup, cut shine and blur the appearance of pores – and boy, does it deliver. The powder itself is so finely milled, light and airy. Although it does come in a shade range, they’re pretty forgivable. I chose shade Light/Medium, which would be perfect for me most of the year; however, I just came back from a week at the beach with a gorgeous tan. When swatched heavily, the lightest shade of Wowder was a bit too light, but on the face, I barely noticed. If you’re confused about your shade match, I would recommend sticking with the same shade as your Perfecting Skin Tint.
Being a dry-skinned girl, I have to be careful with powders. Typically, loose powders can look cakey and accentuate every, little imperfection on my skin. Wowder, however, is sheer and super lightweight on the skin. It doesn’t feel heavy whatsoever and just melts into my face, without emphasizing my dry skin. Wowder is also formulated with diamond powder, which helps to not make my skin look super flat and one dimensional. It mattifies without leaving the skin looking dull – like magic! And although I’m dry, my skin likes to get oily later in the day (mainly in my t-zone), but after 9 hours, I’m happy to report that Wowder kept the oil at bay without needing a touch-up.
In true Glossier fashion, the packaging is perfection! I mean, seriously! Glossier knows a thing or two about the art of Instagrammable product. Inside of the perfectly packaged pink jar is a trampoline mesh to prevent product overload on your brush and mess on your vanity. Just a tiny tap into the mesh and a swirl around the side deposits just the right amount of powder to your brush. You know that cloud of powder that blooms into the air every time you open your loose powder jar? Glossier’s trampoline mesh prevents that problem and saves all of the wasted product that comes with every powder puff into the air with a traditional loose powder. I can’t say for sure, but it looks like the mesh will last well through heavy use. In the midst of my excitement about receiving Wowder, I yanked the sticker from the mesh entirely too hard. It stuck and pulled and I was worried that I may have stretched the trampoline mesh covering the powder, but it fell right back into place as if it never happened.
Along with the release of Wowder, comes the Wowder Brush. This brush is cute as can be, with a metallic pink handle stamped with the Glossier “G” on the end. The super soft, synthetic bristles were designed to pick up the perfect amount of product. It’s the perfect sized brush to apply product to the hard to reach areas (under the eye, around the nose), but fluffy enough to use on the entire face. It comes in a convenient, pink mesh zippered case, which I appriciate. The pouch makes it easy to travel with or throw into your bag for touchups. The smaller sized handle makes it easy to fit into a makeup bag. I did try the powder with a couple of my other powder brushes, but the Wowder Brush fits perfectly into the jar (most of my powder brushes were too big). The Wowder Brush is the perfect companion to Wowder – they’re M.F.E.O. (like Tom Hanks & Meg Ryan).
I tested Wowder over the weekend to see how it would fare with different products. It wore beautifully over my full face of Glossier products – Perfecting Skin Tint, Stretch Concealer & Cloud Paint. I even applied Cloud Paint over Wowder with great results – surprisingly enough, it didn’t get patchy or streaky over Glossier’s magical new product. The following day, I wore Wowder over a more high coverage foundation & concealer, the Hourglass Vanish Stick Foundation & Tarte Shape Tape concealer. Again, Wowder set my makeup beautifully and invisibly. It blurred the look of my pores, set my makeup and kept shine at bay all day long without reapplication. I’ve yet to try baking with Wowder, but I will definitely keep you all posted as I test drive Wowder more in-depth. Overall, my first impression is that Glossier has created yet another stellar product.
